Before the Day Begins: What’s in My Cup?
Some mornings start off slower than others, especially when I know I have a full day ahead of me. And honestly, I like to start off slow. I like getting up before everyone else wakes up. Before the phone starts ringing, before the emails start coming in, and before anybody needs anything from me. That little bit of quiet time in the morning is something I really enjoy. This is something I had to really be intentional about.
On mornings like this, my go-to tea is Stabili-Tea. I brew myself a cup, sit down, and gather my thoughts. Usually, I'm thinking about what I need to accomplish that day and how I plan on getting it done. And depending on how long that list is, I may also have to ask myself, What can wait? Because everything doesn't have to get done today.
I need that time in the morning, especially when I know I have a lot going on. It gives me a chance to sit down, gather my thoughts, pray, and figure out what I actually need to get done before the day gets started. And of course, there's my tea.
So, What's in My Cup?
Stabili-Tea is one of my favorite blends to drink in the morning. It's warm, a little spicy, with a tart berry flavor. It has cinnamon, ginger root, thyme, cardamom, hibiscus, oat straw, turmeric and you can get yours right HERE. Now, I know some of those ingredients are probably familiar. But one that might make you stop and say, What's that? is oat straw.
I know most people probably don't hear "oat straw" and think tea. I didn't always know much about it either. Oat straw comes from the green part of the oat plant, and traditionally it's been used as a nourishing herb, especially during times when you're feeling worn down. That's one of the things I love about learning about herbs. Something that sounds so simple can have such a long history of use.
Then there's cinnamon, which is probably a little more familiar. Besides giving StabiliTea that warm taste I love, cinnamon naturally contains antioxidant compounds. And when you put it together with the ginger, hibiscus, cardamom, and the other herbs, you get this warm, slightly spicy tea with a little tart berry flavor. Now let’s be clear. Am I sitting there at 5 or 6:00 in the morning thinking, "I'm getting my oat straw in today"? No. I'm sitting there trying to figure out how I'm going to get everything done that day.
I'm drinking my tea, thinking about my day, talking to God, and enjoying the fact that the house is quiet for a few more minutes.
And that's really what I love about my morning cup. For me, it's not just about what's in the tea. It's also about what happens while I'm sitting there drinking it.
Before Everyone Else Wakes Up
My mornings aren't anything fancy. Some mornings I have more time than others, and there are definitely mornings when my mind is already going before I even take my first sip. But I really appreciate those quiet minutes. It's my chance to think, Okay, Taisha. What are we doing today? What really needs to get done? What can wait? Where do I need to focus my attention? And somewhere in there, I'm talking to God too. Sometimes it's a full prayer. Sometimes it's simply, "God, help me with this day." That's it.
I don't have an elaborate two-hour morning routine. I don't wake up every morning and have everything perfectly planned out. It's just me, God, my thoughts, and my StabiliTea. Then everybody wakes up. And the day begins.
Sip & Reflect
Are you a jump-out-of-bed-and-go person, or do you need a little time before you start your day?
I definitely need my time. So tomorrow morning, before you grab your phone and start answering everybody else, give yourself a few minutes. Make your tea. Sit down. Ask yourself, What do I actually need to get done today? Not the 25 things running through your head. What really needs your attention?
That's usually where I start. Me, God, my thoughts, and my StabiliTea.
And then...
It's time to get the day started.
Until next time...
Sip with purpose. Live with intention
